| Public Support for the New Pakatan Rakyat Government in Selangor Remains Strong |

English Edition SHAH ALAM, 24 July 2009 - Recent poll conducted by Ummah Centre has shown that the public support for the new Pakatan Rakyat government in Selangor remains strong after 1 year in office. The survey conducted throughout the month of June 2009 is based on interviews of 1078 randomly selected registered voters aged 21 years old and above by telephone across Selangor in Peninsular Malaysia. Survey margin of error is estimated at ± 3.08%. When asked whether the respondents will continue to support the present Selangor government after taking into consideration their 1-year performance, 59.2% respondents said yes while 10.4% said no and 22.7% was unsure. 7.7% respondents gave no response. Among the 3 major ethnic groups, the Indian respondents gave the highest approval of the new government at 75.7% followed by the Chinese with 56.9% and then the Malay at 56.0%. The male respondents were more supportive of the Pakatan Rakyat government in Selangor as compared to their female counterpart at 62.2% and 56.7% respectively. When respondents living in town areas in Selangor were surveyed, the results showed that they were more supportive of the current Selangor state government (61.1%) as compared to those respondents living in rural areas (56.9%). This trend was consistent with the poll results which showed that the respondents living in “urbanised” districts namely Petaling, Gombak, Klang and Hulu Langat were most favourable to the present government (> 60%). The respondents interviewed have also given favourable response to the state government’s efforts in helping the people of Selangor. When asked whether the policies and changes introduced by the new government were beneficial to the people of Selangor, 61.5% said yes while 21.9% said no and 12.2% respondents were unsure. 4.5% respondents gave no response. Among the factors that will ensure the respondents’ continuous support of the present government were “priority on people’s welfare” at 27.1% followed by “transparency and good governance” at 15.9%, “fair and transparent democracy” at 7.8% and “effective and efficient state administration” at 7.6%.
Edisi Bahasa Melayu Sokongan Ramai Ke Atas Kerajaan Baru Pakatan Rakyat Di Selangor Terus Kukuh SHAH ALAM, 24 Julai 2009- Bancian terbaru yang dikendalikan oleh Ummah Centre telah menunjukkan bahawa sokongan ramai ke atas kerajaan baru Pakatan Rakyat di Selangor terus kukuh selepas 1 tahun pentadbiran. Bancian yang dilakukan sepanjang bulan Jun 2009 adalah berasaskan temuduga rambang menggunakan telefon ke atas 1078 responden yang merupakan pengundi berdaftar berumur 21 tahun ke atas daripada seluruh Selangor. Ralat bancian adalah ± 3.08%. Apabila ditanya samada responden akan terus menyokong kerajaan negeri Selangor yang sedia ada setelah mengambil kira prestasi mereka selepas 1 tahun mentadbir, 59.2% berkata ya sementara 10.4% berkata tidak dan 22.7% tidak pasti. 7.7% responden tidak memberikan sebarang respon. Antara 3 etnik terbesar, responden berketurunan India memberikan sokongan tertinggi ke atas kerajaan negeri sekarang dengan 75.7% diikuti kaum Cina dengan 56.9% dan seterusnya kaum Melayu dengan 56.0%. Responden lelaki didapati lebih kuat menyokong kerajaan Pakatan Rakyat di Selangor dengan 62.2% berbanding responden wanita dengan 56.7%. Apabila bancian dibuat ke atas responden yang tinggal di kawasan bandar, hasil kajian mendapati mereka lebih kuat menyokong kerajaan negeri sekarang (61.1%) berbanding dengan responden yang tinggal di kawasan luar bandar (56.9%). Tren ini bertepatan dengan hasil bancian yang menunjukkan responden yang tinggal di daerah perbandaran termasuk di Daerah Petaling, Gombak, Klang dan Hulu Langat adalah penyokong kuat kepada kerajaan negeri sekarang (> 60%). Para responden yang ditemuduga telah juga menunjukkan respon yang positif kepada usaha kerajaan negeri di dalam membantu rakyat Selangor. Apabila ditanya samada dasar dan perubahan yang diperkenalkan oleh kerajaan baru adalah bermanfaat kepada rakyat Selangor, 61.5% berkata ya sementara 21.9% berkata tidak dan 12.2% tidak pasti. 4.5% responden tidak memberi sebarang respon. Antara faktor yang akan memastikan sokongan ramai berterusan ke atas kerajaan sekarang adalah “keutamaan terhadap kebajikan rakyat” dengan 27.1% diikuti dengan “ketelusan dan urus tadbir yang baik” dengan 15.9%, “demokrasi yang adil dan telus” dengan 7.8% dan “pentadbiran negeri yang efektif dan efisyen” dengan 7.6%.
